Pedro is 60 years old and has been an educator for 38 years. He has a Masters’ degree in mathematics and a bachelors’ degree in statistics. Until recently he was a mathematics professor at the Universidad Centro America, the largest university in Nicaragua. He grew up in a catholic home but most of his adult life he was not active in that religion. He and his wife of 43 years, Julia, have 5 children and 8 grandchildren. Pastor Jason Rogers describes the first experie n c e s w i t h P e d r o : “Approximately 6 years ago he visited our church (Iglesia Bautista Gracia de Dios-Grace Baptist Church) because his daughter, Geysell, was going to be baptized. He was very intrigued by the message and visited occasionally for special activities. When his youngest son David was baptized shortly thereafter, he announced, “Pastor, not next Sunday but the one after that, I am going to be saved!” He then looked at his wife and said, “How about you?” After a moment of surprise, I said, “That’s great!” I added, “How about I go by your house this week and talk to you some more.” That week I found out that he had indeed already trusted Christ in his heart but that he wanted to publicly profess his faith in Christ. He simply did not know the correct terminology. He and Julia both got baptized soon after and now his entire family is saved and members of the church.” Pedro preaches and teaches on a regular basis at the church in Diriamba. When Pastor Ramon approached him about helping with the “Oasis de la Gracia” ministry he said he would do whatever he could. After praying about it, he told Ramon that God was leading him to take early retirement from his job and work in the ministry full-time by faith. He is now the sub-director of the school and Pastor Ramon’s right-hand man.
